Carolyn Sue Shank, 79, of Salina, Kansas, passed away peacefully at home with family, Monday, May 18, 2020.
Howard’s life began October 14, 1926 in Marion, Kansas. He was the son of Lester and Esther (Berg) Klein. Howard was a 1944 graduate of Marion High School and served his country in the United States Army in Japan. Howard also attended calligraphy school in Omaha. He was united in marriage to Shirley Kaiser on June 17, 1953 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Durham. Howard was a depot agent for the Southern Pacific and Rock Island Railroads, retiring in 1988. He had lived in Wellington prior to moving to Herington in 1980. Howard was a member of the American Legion and the VFW, and Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Herington. He was an avid flower gardener and “precise” lawn mower. He also indulged in Hersey miniature chocolates and enjoyed going to the casino and scratching off lotto tickets. His loving family includes his wife of 66 years Shirley Klein of Herington; children Joreen (Graham) Jones of Aurora, CO, Sandra (Mark) Sutton of Abilene and Diana Klein of Wellington; grandchildren Jennifer (Levi) Feeney, Susan (Paul) Turle, Sally Jones, Sonya Sutton, Shad Sutton, and Leslie (Christopher) Seematter; great grandchildren Landon, Campbell, Matthew, Kyle, Raven, Ryder, Karter, Kyla and Everette. Howard, age 93, passed away on May 23, 2020 at Salina Regional Hospital. He is preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter Sherry and brother Donald Klein. Visitation was held on Wednesday, May 27 at Yazel-Megli Funeral Home, Herington. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, May 28 at 11 a.m. at the Durham Park Cemetery, Durham led by Reverend Alan Stahlecker. Jeff’s life began Jan. 29, 1966 in Indiana. He was the son of Phyllis (Richard) Visser and Jerry King. He went to school in Hope. Jeff served his country in the United State Army.
Helmut E Hoelle passed away on February 21, 2020. The memorial service was cancelled at the time due to the stay at home order. We now have received word that the service may be scheduled. A memorial service for Helmut E Hoelle is planned for May 29, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at the Veteran’s Cemetery, 5181 Wildcat Creek Road, Manhattan, Kansas. Those who wish to join the family are welcome.
Glenn’s life began on Feb. 21, 1935, in Hope, Kan., the son of Charley and Maggie (Friedli) Bayes. He was a long-time resident of Herington and graduated from Herington High School with the Class of 1953. He went to school with his future wife, Beverly Lee. They were married July 31, 1955, at the Herington Methodist Church.
