“We had a good afternoon last week, my friends. The rain stopped and me and Mommy went out and walked and walked all over our property. There are so many great things to smell! Best of all, when Mommy wasn’t looking I found a snack! She turned around and I was eating and she started yelling and clapping her hands but it was too late! Ha ha! She said ‘oh gross Mickey!’ but she just doesn’t know how yummy those tootsie rolls are that I find in the yard!”
The smell of newsprint, the feel of pulpy pages, the bold designs and bright colors inviting you to look inside… comic books are awesome!
The only sound was the snapping of the Stars and Stripes in the brisk breeze. No nearby trees to whisper the presence of the wind.
As a child, I spent my life “Down on the Farm.” But one of the things guaranteed to get me away from home was exhibiting at the fair. Even as a child, I knew how lucky I was to have a local fair right here in my home town.
Wednesday, June 3, is the deadline to register to participate in the Herington Whalers Swim Team.
